About ADRA
What happens when movement meets film?
ADRA is Wales’ first international festival dedicated to Screendance.
Following a successful first edition in April 2026 - 2027 marks the second edition of ADRA - bringing together filmmakers, dancers, choreographers, artists, young makers and creatives from Wales and beyond for a full day of screenings, conversation and connection at The Riverfront Theatre in Newport.
ADRA is a space to watch each other’s work, discover new approaches to movement on screen and meet the people making it happen.
What is Screendance?
Screendance isn't simply dance filmed on camera.
It is a broad and evolving form of filmmaking where movement becomes a central theme, idea or creative language.
Movement can come from a body, but it can also come from the camera, sound, landscape, editing, animation, words, poetry or story.
A Screendance film might be choreographed or improvised. It might be documentary, narrative, experimental, animated, abstract or completely difficult to define.
It can be anything where movement is at the heart of the film.
ADRA is interested in this space between disciplines - where film and movement meet, and where artists can explore storytelling through multiple mediums.
What are we looking for:
ADRA celebrates movement on screen in a broad range of styles, art forms, and approaches. You can submit Choreography, Improvisation, Animation, Documentary, Narrative, Experiential, Abstract, and Experimental films. Anything in which movement on screen is the main component.
Your film must be completed (no works in progress), and we ask that you include captioning for any dialogue and descriptions of sound and music.
A festival for movement in all its forms
We believe Screendance has a place for everyone.
ADRA brings together established artists, emerging filmmakers, dancers, choreographers, students, young makers and community participants. We celebrate work from Wales and around the world, while creating opportunities for Welsh artists and communities to see their work alongside an international programme.
The festival is also rooted in community and connection.
Alongside the annual festival, our touring festival ADRA Ar Daith creates opportunities for Screendance and movement-based work to reach audiences and communities across Wales and internationally.
We want ADRA to be a place where you can discover a film you've never seen, meet someone you've never worked with, or leave with an idea for something you didn't know you wanted to make.
ADRA 2027
The second edition of ADRA continues to grow a space for Screendance in Wales - connecting local, national and international artists and bringing movement on screen to new audiences.
ADRA is organised by Kokoro Arts, funded by Ffilm Cymru Wales, and presented with the support and partnership of The Riverfront Theatre, University of South Wales and AmbobDim.
