Have a read at what some of our participants have said about their experience throughout this project. It’s been wonderful to see them grow in confidence in their moving and performing, learn about intercultural relationships and form new friendships. For some of our participants an opportunity to travel abroad, especially a country they hadn’t heard much before has been an adventure of their lifetime. Some of our participants were inspired to take initiative and apply for external funds that would support them doing dance regularly at a competitive level. We are very proud of each and every young person that participated in some or all project activities!

“I’m thankful for the opportunity and the new experiences I’ve had. Just to start, I love that I’ve been able to explore a completely new place. I’ve met so many new people that I’ve loved chatting to and learning new things about different people’s culture. These are things I didn’t know before this trip and I’m able to leave with wider perspective of the world around. Being able to just sit together at food time sharing stories or dancing together and learning new dances and traditional dances has given us a sense of community that’ll never leave us. All three national groups and the additional nationalities withing will always be united and connected because of this project, no matter how stretched we are across the globe. This experience is one I’ll never forget.”

“I started the project in Wales. I did not think I could enjoy as much as I have. Thanks to Gundija, Dominika and Kari for introducing me to this project. Also a big thank you to all of the leaders for making this exchange possible.  It’s really brought me out of my comfort zone as I’ve never left the country without my parents before. But this exchange has helped me become  more confident and introduced me to new things ‘i wouldn’t usually do. I’ve met some amazing people here and have really enjoyed learning about different cultures and different typed of dance. I really hope I do more of these exchanged in the future and also to keep in contact with some of the people I have met here.”

“I used to be shy but these projects, especially this one has helped me develop my confidence, social skills and emphaty. [..] It’s important to me to learn about how others see the world , what they know, enjoy and what problems they see.”

  • Improved sense of own identity

  • Increased confidence in moving

  • Valued space to discuss Gender

  • Appreciation of cultural difference

“Connections and friendships formed between everyone, regardless of the language barrier.

It was really great to see the creativity and expression of everyone involved. I would like to give a spacial thank you to the choreographers for creating and encouraging such an amazing performance. I am proud to be involved and everyone who took part should give themselves a round of applause. I have learnt a lot about different cultures.”

“I gained deeper knowledge about leading international exchange projects and what it takes to make them happen, from recruiting participants and preparing them for the travel to anticipating any social or cultural problems that might arise during the project.

I became more aware of cultural differences and points of clashes when it comes to scheduling and organising activities to take everyones needs into consideration.

I was reminded of an obligation to make a decision and have an opinion in a moment of crisis, otherwise there’s chaos if no-one takes responsibility. The only way to get the project developing the direction it works for you is to is to step up and share your needs and thoughts and solutions.

I became more motivated to run international mobility projects myself and offer opportunities for cultures to connect and share to even more young people in Wales.

It was great to have opportunity to collaborate with new artists and leaders and create movement based work together. I realised that however difficult it might be to create work with someone who has different methods on approaching movement and choreography, it brought unexpected and positive results. I felt inspired when working with someone I normally don’t.”

“The dance felt like a natural incorporation to my being. Contemporary dance may be an area I want to explore in the future”
